Trainee Travel Awards
Each year, the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention awards money to trainees to assist them with their travel expenses to attend the annual meeting. Trainees who have an abstract that is accepted for presentation and present the abstract during the meeting, as either a platform or poster presentation, are eligible for a Travel Award.
Travel Award applications are due February 22. Please make sure to submit your abstract by the February 15 deadline and then submit a Travel Award application by February 22.
Travel Award Eligibility Information
Travel Awards are available to all trainees who demonstrate a strong interest in research on birth defects and
developmental disorders and are:
- Enrolled in a degree-granting institution
- Eligible until the end of the following year after graduation
- Engaged in a post-baccalaureate transitional position
- Eligible until the end of the following year after graduation
- Engaged in a formal postgraduate program (i.e., postdoctoral, residency, or internship)
- Eligible until the end of the following year after the completion of the program
Travel Award Application Information
BDRP membership is required for all trainee travel
awards. Application for Membership may be completed online via the new member
application form.
Mentor Letter
A letter from your Mentor is required for all Trainee Travel Awards and should be submitted with the
application. The letter should include the following information:
- a specific statement to confirm you are currently enrolled at the sponsoring institution or still in the formal training phase of your education
- a brief description of the curriculum of study and/or your research program
- an assessment of the characteristics that make you stand out for recognition by the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention
- optionally, additional introduction, methods, results, discussion, and/or two pages of illustrative materials
