Invitation from the President

I am delighted to invite you to Minneapolis, MN, for the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention’s 67th Annual Meeting, to be held from June 14–17, 2027, at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

This year's meeting offers outstanding science, networking, and professional growth around the theme “Twin Cities, Unified Science: Connecting Mechanisms and Outcomes in Birth Defects Research.” The Program Committee, chaired by Sarah Običan, has organized an excellent program around this theme with scientific symposia on the following topics:

  • Assessing Developmental and Germline Transmission Risk in Cell and Gene Therapies: Science, Strategy, and Prevention
  • Classification of Structural Malformations for Etiologic Research
  • Innovative Approaches to Integrate Safety Data Sources to Inform the Safety of Medications in Pregnancy
  • Maternal Obesity and GLP-1 Agonists Effects on Pregnancy Outcomes
  • Molecular Signaling Across the Placenta–Heart–Brain Axis: Insights into the Developmental Origins of Disease
  • Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement: Applying the Principles of the 3Rs of Animal Welfare to Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology Research

The program also features a continuing education course on autism spectrum disorders, research needs and professional development workshops, special lectures honoring the founding fathers of our society, platform and poster sessions. In addition, the Developmental Neurotoxicology Society (DNTS) and US DOHaD Society will meet alongside BDRP, with joint sessions and ample networking opportunities among attendees from all three societies.

Abstracts due February 15, 2027 (trainees with accepted abstracts may apply for travel awards).

For those who have never had the opportunity to attend a BDRP Annual Meeting, join us in 2027 to see for yourself how we host an outstanding educational and scientific event that provides researchers from academia, industry, regulatory agencies, contract research organizations, consulting companies, and clinical specialties an opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas that promote and expand the value of birth defects research and prevention.

I look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be an engaging and inspiring meeting in Minneapolis, MN.

BDRP President
