The 48th Annual Meeting of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention will be held at the Hyatt Regency Monterey on June 28–July 2, 2008, in Monterey, California. In addition to the fantastic venue, the 2008 scientific program covers important issues in birth defects research and education, ranging from the latest findings in basic research on embryonic and fetal hypoxia to hot topics in nutrition and food safety as they relate normal and abnormal fetal and child development.
The format of the meeting will be slightly different in 2008. In response to the recommendations of the Strategic Planning Session participants and the membership, the meeting will be condensed from five days to four, ending on Wednesday evening, July 2. The Education Course will be presented in its entirety on Saturday, June 28. An extended break will be included midway through the Course, to allow for a leisurely lunch with colleagues or perhaps to join the festivities at the XXVII Annual Volleyball Game.
For the first time at the 2008 meeting, we will offer CME credits to clinicians and trainees for many of the program sessions. This new opportunity, being provided in collaboration with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), will help to broaden the audience at our scientific sessions, while enhancing the professional development of clinicians who deal with integrating findings into everyday practice. ACOG has awarded the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention a total of thirty-four CME credits for the 2008 Annual Meeting.
Emeritus Members are encouraged to attend the meeting and the Education Courses. Reduced registration rates have been established to assist you in your continued participation in the Annual Meeting. To qualify for this rate you must be an approved Emeritus Member of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention.
The Annual Meeting provides a place and time to catch up with colleagues, make new friends, network, and indulge in discussions from philosophical to practical with established experts in the field, new researchers, and students. It is also a place and time to promote and express our scientific diversity as a Society of fellow clinicians, scientists and science policy regulators from academic, industrial, and government sectors. Register by February 18 to take advantage of the savings.

The meeting registration fee covers a number of food and beverage functions, as well as the administrative costs for the meeting. The functions include the Banquet, breakfast, and coffee and refreshment breaks. We will also have a Welcome Reception on Sunday and a reception during each of the poster sessions. Take advantage of the Advance Registration rate by registering by May 15, 2008.
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) designates this educational activity for a maximum of 34 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ or up to a maximum of 34 Category 1 ACOG Cognate Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Members of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention and OTIS or the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention and NBTS are eligible for a reduced joint registration fee. The optional joint member registration fee will allow members of these groups to register for both meetings at reduced rate via one payment. Select the joint member registration fee on the registration form or when you register on-line. The Societies will be validating the membership status of all registrants. Registrants who do not meet the membership requirements for both Societies will be responsible for paying the full fee for the separate meetings.
In addition to the optional joint registration fees, the organizations have continued to include a few joint sessions in this year’s meeting. Registrants of the respective meetings are welcome to attend the joint sessions and the sessions hosted by the organization for which they are registered.
The member registration rate is only available to Teratology Members who have paid their dues through the current year. If you are unable to register at the member rate, it is possible that your dues payment has not been received. Please contact the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention headquarters to inquire about the status of your membership. Or if you prefer, you may pay your dues on-line and register for the event in the same transaction.
This year the Society is pleased to offer Emeritus Members of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention a reduced registration fee. In order to take advantage of this reduced registration rate you must be an Emeritus Member of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention. The Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention is pleased to announce a special opportunity during the meeting for small groups of students and postdoctoral fellows to meet with associate or full members of the Society for informal discussion over lunch or dinner. About four students will be grouped with each Ambassador. The Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention, through support of sponsors, will host the meal of the participating individuals according to the specifications on the Ambassador application.
Students and postdoctoral fellows may sign-up, after April 1, to participate in one of the lunches/dinners by indicating their preference on the Dine with an Ambassador form Students and postdoctoral fellows may sign-up for only one meal. Space is limited and assignments will be made on a firstcome, first-served basis.
